Do you close for the summer holidays?
No, we are open all summer. Our only holiday is at the end of the year when we close for two weeks over Christmas.

Can I surf the internet and check my emails
 while at an Alpadia school or summer camp?
Yes, our adult schools all offer access to computers and the email. The summer camps all have WIFI, but do not offer access to computers.

Does Alpadia offer any insurance cover for students?
Yes, but we strongly recommend that you arrange personal liability insurance yourself. If you want us to arrange health insurance for you during the period of your stay, please contact us directly.

How can I book a course?
Fill in the enrolment form online or attached to our brochures and send it to us electronically or by post/fax. Telephone bookings need to be confirmed in writing. Booking is confirmed when you receive the invoice.

How soon do I need to book a course?
As class size is limited we recommend that you register at least one month in advance. Bookings within two weeks of the start date incur an additional charge of CHF 50 / EUR 35 / GBP 30.

Can I book initially for one or two weeks and then extend my course?
Yes, but remember this will result in a higher price than for a single booking covering the same time-period. There is no guarantee that we will be able to provide you with a place on one of our courses, or in the accommodation of your choice. It could mean a gap between the end of one course and the start of your next course, or having to switch accommodation.

Will I receive confirmation of my booking?
Yes, you will normally receive confirmation of your booking within 24 hours, apart from on weekends. If you haven't heard anything from us within two days, get in touch as it might mean that your booking has not been received. As soon as we receive your advance payment, your course and accommodation are guaranteed.

How can I pay for my course?
We accept payment by bank transfer or in cash at our office.

Will you send me an invoice before my course starts?
Yes, we confirm all bookings with an invoice.

What will it cost me if I cancel my booking?
Please see our “8. Cancellation prior to commencement of the course” section in our Terms and Conditions for full cancellation pricing information.

What qualifications do the teachers have?
All of our teachers are native speakers. They are all university graduates and have extensive experience in adult language education.

How big are the classes?
At our schools classes are limited to twelve participants, and our summer camp classes are limited to fourteen.

How long is a lesson?
45 minutes

How old do I have to be to join a course?
To book a language course at one of our adult schools you have to be 16 years old. For our summer camps, the minimum age at Leysin-Juniors is 8 years old and all other camps, 13 years old.

How do I find the right course for my language level?
Our adult courses require an online assessment before arriving at the school so that you can start your first day in the right class. Our summer camp students are assessed upon arrival at the camp.

Can I change groups if I feel I’m in the wrong group?
There are weekly tests to monitor and track progress. Should you feel the class you are in is too fast, too slow, too easy or too difficult, have a word with your teacher. If you need a second opinion, speak to the school or camp manager who will take the decision whether or not you should be moved or not.

What is included in the course price?
Books and other teaching material, the culture and activities programme, Alpadia student ID, the placement test, the weekly tests and your course certificate attesting to the level obtained.

Will I receive a certificate?
All students who have attended more than 80% of the teaching sessions in their course will receive an Alpadia certificate stating their language level.

Do you also offer excursions for your students?
Each of our schools offers is a rich and varied culture and activities programmes offering excursions on at least three afternoons and evenings per week. Our summer camp students benefit from an exceptionally rich programme of activities and excursions that are included in the price. An optional Premium+ creative or sports activity is available at an additional cost.

What types of accommodation are available?
For adults we offer a range of accommodation options, which you can view here.
For students at our summer camps, there is a range of accommodation from single ensuite bedrooms to quadruple rooms in student residences. Please see the individual camps to see what options are available.

Can I book a course without booking accommodation?
Yes.

How do I pay for my accommodation?
The accommodation fee will be included in your enrolment invoice so it can be paid in the same way as the language course or summer camp.

Can I book accommodation without booking a course?
No.

When will I receive the exact details about my accommodation?
Approximately ten days before your course is due to start, we will send exact details: name, address, telephone number, email address (if available), and a short description of the accommodation.

When should I arrive and depart?
All accommodation is booked from the Sunday before your course begins until the Saturday after it finishes. If, for example, you can't get flights on these days, it is possible to book extra nights. Please let us know your travel plans as soon as possible!

Do I need to bring bedding, and towels with me?
No, bedding is provided but you need to bring towels!

Do I need to clean my room myself?
Yes.
