Learn German at Alpadia Freiburg

Founded in 1972, our language school in Freiburg is established in an elegant neoclassical house located in the town centre. Here, you will find a stimulating, multicultural environment, conducive to learning German rapidly.

The course centre has comfortable classrooms, a study room, a cafeteria as well as a computer room equipped with self-study software and internet access. In the summer months, you can also take advantage of the large sunny terrace to spend pleasurable moments with the other students from the school.

After your German classes, set off to discover the city. From the school, you will be close to the university, the numerous shops of the historical centre and its beautiful Gothic cathedral. And if you like to ride bikes, take advantage of the city’s 400 kilometres of cycle lanes.

Courses

Alpadia Freiburg offers you the opportunity to learn German in a friendly, family-like environment. Classes take place in the morning and depending on the course chosen, continue until the early afternoon. Teaching is interactive and fun, with students encouraged to exercise their communication skills as much as possible. All our course levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our advance placement test ensures that, from the very first morning, you begin learning the language at the correct level.

Whether you are looking for an optimal immersion experience with a host family or a more independent option in a student apartment where you have total freedom, our team will find the option best adapted to your needs.

Host Family

This is the ideal solution if you seek an intense immersion experience living with a German family. You can choose from either a half-board or breakfast-only meal option. Our host families provide single or double rooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom.

Student apartment

At Freiburg we have two apartments available, both with a large terrace, in-house laundry facilities, shared bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. You can book either a twin or single room in a two-room flat. It takes 15-30 minutes by tram to get to the school and to the town centre.

Residence

Conveniently located only 20 minutes from the school and 15 minutes to the main train station by public transport, our residence provides you with a single room and private bathroom. The use of the fully equipped kitchen and communal lounge area is shared with 13 other guests.

Hotel and Bed & Breakfast

If you prefer alternative accommodation, we can propose a wide range of hotels and bed & breakfasts located within the town centre and surrounding neighbourhood – from simple to simply splendid.

Application requirements for Germany

Language level: Programme prior TestDaf exam and Studienkolleg entry
Beginner: 10 months / A2 elementary: 8 months / B1 Pre-intermediate: 6 months

Direct access to university

  • High school diploma equivalent to the German Abitur
  • Intensive 25 course + Exam PREP 30 in the last month
  • TestDaf C1 or TELC Hochschule C1 is required for entering University
  • TestDaF/TELC exam session in April and university starts in October (for some, possibility to start in March/April)

Indirect access via Studienkolleg 

  • If your high school diploma is not equivalent to the German Abitur, you need to attend a one-year foundation programme called Studienkolleg
  • B2 level is the minimum required
  • Intensive 25 course + preparation Studienkolleg in the last month
  • Studienkolleg deadlines: September (entry exam May/June) or February (entry exam in December/January)
