Ethan's Story

Hello! My name is Ethan, and I am an 18-year-old student from Santa Cruz, Bolivia.  

I joined the Academic Pathway course in Germany to improve my German language skills so that I can one day apply to study my preferred degree: Civil Systems Engineering at the Technical University Berlin.  

Picking Alpadia has helped made this dream possible. 

Pursuing my dream 

I wanted to move to Germany because of its excellent specialist schools, particularly in my desired field of study. Through my own research on the internet, I discovered Alpadia had a reputation for languages, and I decided it was the best option to help me achieve the necessary language requirements for my course. 

Online learning isn’t for everyone 

However, because of the pandemic I was unable to attend in the year I originally wanted to, and so I tried to learn online. I was able to study up to A2 level, but I struggled with online classes and found that I wasn’t learning much. 

That’s why it was so important for me to travel to Berlin and learn German in person. Their combination of targeted classroom lessons and immersive activities was perfect for my style of learning.  

More than just a language course 

The Academic Pathway course has exceeded my expectations and I feel confident in my German language skills, even though it was challenging at first living in a country where you don’t speak the language. 

But the course didn’t just help me with my German; Alpadia also helped with everything from my visa application to accommodation, and they assisted me in finding somewhere to live that would give the independence I wanted. 

Plan, plan, plan! 

I love living in Berlin, particularly because of the technological development, which is exciting for my future career. 

My advice to new applicants? Think hard about what you want from life and how you can achieve it. Once you’ve got that figured out, all you need to do is plan it all in advance!
